Description
A World famous institution, the Natural History Museum opened in it’s fantastic building in the late nineteenth century. It’s free to enter and a must-see attraction, especially for families.
Dinosaur skeletons, human origins, creepy crawlies, extinct animals and more are displayed in different zones and attractions include an earthquake simulator. Metals, gems and crystals are displayed in another zone and many of the millions of specimens are shown in the Darwin Centre, where the museum’s scientists are based.
There are often fabulous temporary exhibitions to visit – some of which require a pre-booking and a paid ticket – and other events such as after-hours movie nights, late openings and sleepovers.
Some of the must-see objects are:
- On the Origins of the Species by Charles Darwin, extremely rare first edition book.
- The “cursed amethyst”
- The canopy ceiling
- The mosaic floor
- The colossal squid
- Archeopteryx
It does get very busy in school holidays, so it’s worth arriving to the Natural History Museum early.
